In the psychodynamic/psychoanalytic approach I use, we explore with deep respect the meaning of your thoughts, feelings, memories and dreams. In congruence with my experience, research has shown this method to have more comprehensive and lasting benefits and to enable growth to continue even after treatment ends (see Science Daily, Jan, 27 2010 summary). The treatment works by increasing self awareness as well as by experiencing new ways of relating to yourself and others. Beyond relief of symptoms, clients gain resources for facing future challenges, for enjoying iife and living with motivation. The approach is most suited to those who in addition to resolving current psychological problems, want to improve their relationships and live a more fulfilling, meaningful life.
In-depth individual psychotherapy, psychoanalysis (a very in-depth form of treatment that aims to get to the core of one's problems) and couples therapy are the services I offer. I work with adults of all ages and adolescents. Though my knowledge base is broad, I have considerable expertise in the treatment of anxiety, depression, self defeating behaviors, relationship difficulties and adult children of alcoholics.
My background has provided me with considerable skill to help. I am a psychoanalyst (certified by the American Psychoanalytic Association), a licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist with over twenty five years of experience. In addition, I am on the faculty of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis, The Palo Alto Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program and a teacher and consultant to other therapists.
My office is in Los Gatos, a suburb of San Jose, in the vicinity of Good Samaritan Hospital. It is close to both Highway 85 and17.
